Studio
We work between the quarry and the drawing
Architectural stone, hand carving and bespoke lighting, made to order.
Fine Arch Studio exists because the two things that decide how a room feels — the stone it is built from and the light that falls on it — are almost always bought from two different places, by two different people, at two different times. We do both, and we detail them together.
Stone
We select marble, limestone, travertine and granite by block rather than by sample chip, so the veining you approve is the veining that arrives. Slabs are cut, book-matched and finished to your setting-out drawing. Where a piece has to be carved — a moulding, a capital, a relief, a basin — it is carved by hand in the workshop, not routed from a stock profile.
Light
Our lighting divides into two: architectural fittings that are detailed into the fabric of the building, and decorative pieces that are meant to be looked at. Both are made to a size, finish and lamp specification that you set. We will quote against a reflected ceiling plan as readily as against a sketch.
How a project runs
- Drawing. Send whatever you have — a plan, an elevation, a photograph, a dimension on the back of an envelope.
- Specification. We come back with materials, finishes, sizes and a price, in writing.
- Sample. For stone we send a physical sample of the actual block. For lighting, a finish sample.
- Making. Cutting, carving and assembly, with photographs at the stages that matter.
- Packing. Timber crated for sea freight, with a full packing list and shipping documents.
Who we work with
Architects, interior designers, main contractors and private clients building or restoring a house. There is no minimum order in pieces — a single carved capital is a project we will take. There is a minimum in attention: we would rather do one wall properly than five approximately.
